(1) GOSPEL MUSIC. I'm a musician for Mt. Moriah United Church of Christ in Waverly, VA and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Suffolk, VA. I also do motivational speaking for church services sporadically.
(2) PAGEANTS! I'm very much into the world of beauty queens, but they REALLY DO prefer to be called "scholars". I was my high school queen back in 2006, and I was Miss Virginia Beach that year as well (what a great year!). I was Miss Virginia Peanut 2007, representing Suffolk and the surrounding areas. Currently, I am Miss Norfolk 2008!!!
3) BROADCASTING:-) This is my career path. At the end of the line, I see myself as an anchorwoman for a major news station, or a talk show host. Currently, I am a reporter for WCTV 48, which is the local education and government access channel exclusively for the city of Chesapeake, VA. I recently attempted radio broadcasting, basically because my major covers both radio and TV mass media. So I thought that I would give it a shot, and I had my own radio show! It was called "What's the Big Idea?", where ODU students tell me what they like or dislike about the campus (among other things!). The show aired every Monday and Wednesday from 4-6 pm on ODU's closed-circuit television and at woduradio.com.
For as long as I can remember, I have had a deep passion for music. I love to sing and for the past three years have played the keyboard, experimenting with different genres of music.
But even more importantly, my life is reflected in the type of people that I associate myself with. Therefore, my main interests consist of forming relationships with those who have a DIRECTION in their lives.
I have a passion for breast cancer awareness, especially for women between the ages of 15 and 34. More young women should be educated about this disease, especially because it is more aggressive in women this age. Because of this reason, I have dedicated breast cancer awareness as my personal platform, entitled “Breast Cancer: it’s Not Just Hereditary.”
Who Am I?
*I'm a young woman who thinks often of her readiness to take on the world, but is confident that she's more ready than she can even imagine.
*I'm a Christian who can do nothing more than try to inject God into her everyday life and encourage others to do the same.
*I've evolved due to my involvement with the Miss America Organization. I've already transitioned from a self-proclaimed "Plain Jane" to someone who actually cares about her appearance. Therefore, because I care more about my appearance, I care more about myself.
*I believe that because you only live life once, you can't let other people do it for you.
*I'm serious about my life and my future, and I can't wait to see what happens next.
